Unlike its ugly looks, this fish has very tasty meat, one of my favorite sushi fish.

Mato means target in Japanese, so This big dot becomes the name of the fish.

Else this is a holy fish in western society. According to Wikipedia, Jesus at his command.” (St. Peter is said to be keeper of the gates of Heaven, in Spanish it is known as “gallo” hence “door-keeper”.)
